Our Story
Our Founder, JM Marschner volunteered for over 25 years, helping the local Animal Shelter. In 2017 she answered a plea on Craigslist to provide a home for Yola, a beagle whose owner, a Veteran was diagnosed with cancer. Over 1,000 people answered the plea, and the Veteran asked JM to adopt Yola. She adopted both Yola and her friend Boogy. They were the inspiration for the Yola and Boogy Fund. Their story was so heartwarming that is was featured on The Dodo, a national publication.
Yola and Boogy inspired the quest to do more to help animals in ways that were not covered by other rescues and JM started a program to foster dogs for owners that were in hospice.
In 2017, JM visited the local Indian Reservation delivering food to the spay and neuter clinic. She found that there were too many unwanted pets and not enough rescues to keep up with the demand. Since 2017, Yola's has rescued over 2,000 dogs and cats, and puppies from the Reservation. They have delivered over 1,000 bags of pet food, spayed and neutered over 250 dogs that were returned to their owners , and helped with 1000's of dollars in emergency vet care for pets of tribal members. They have delivered dog houses with straw to outdoor pets. Yola's partners with other rescues so that no unwanted puppy is left behind.
